Stay Safe in the Water This Summer with Little Giant

05/04/2023 | Update

As the weather warms up, many people look forward to opening their pools and spending time in the water. However, it's important to remember that pools can be dangerous places if swimming isn’t supervised and if the pool itself has not been properly maintained. That's why May is National Water Safety Month – a good time to raise awareness about pool safety and promote safe swimming practices. As a leading manufacturer of swimming pool and water garden products, including pumps, filters and more, Little Giant is committed to helping you and your loved ones stay safe while enjoying your pool this year. Consider these guidelines when using your pool:

  1. Never leave a child unattended in or near water - Even if your child is a strong swimmer, accidents can happen in an instant. Being present and attentive when children are around water is one-way catastrophic accidents can be avoided.
  2. Keep pool and spa drains properly covered - These drains can be extremely dangerous if they are left open. A person's hair, limbs or clothing can become entangled, leading to serious injury or drowning. Suction from pool and spa drains can be powerful enough to trap and drown a person. Ensure that all pool and spa drain covers are compliant with federal safety standards and that children are aware of the dangers of pool drains. Teaching children and pets to steer clear of drains is also crucial for pool safety and is another way to prevent the opportunity for injuries to take place.
  3. Install and maintain barriers, alarms and covers - Another way to keep children and pets from accessing the pool area when it’s not in use is by installing proper covers, barriers and alarms. Pool covers, as many pool owners know, come in a variety of options, including mesh, solid and automatic. While having a pool cover is important, it is also important to have the proper tools to prevent tears and rips from occurring due to water accumulation on the cover. Our Little Giant pool cover and maintenance pumps are sure to keep your pool covers in top shape! Having the proper fences, barriers, alarms, and covers can be lifesaving devices.
  4. Get CPR certified - Often bystanders are the first to aid a drowning victim. Learning CPR is a lifesaving skill that could make the difference in a drowning emergency. Consider taking a CPR class to learn the basics and practice regularly to ensure you're prepared for an emergency.

Water and pool safety are crucial, and Little Giant is committed to providing reliable, high-quality products that help keep people safe while enjoying their pools. Pool owners and users can do their part by remembering to always keep an eye on their children and maintain the pool’s drain and covers. With the right products and practices in place, you can enjoy your pool while keeping your family safe.
